Birth Debrief Contract

Purpose of This Agreement

This contract explains the nature of birth debriefing, how sessions work, and the responsibilities of both therapist and client. It is designed to support clarity, safety, and informed consent.

What Is a Birth Debrief?

A birth debrief is a structured, supportive conversationthat offers space to talk through your pregnancy, birth, or postnatal experience.

Birth debriefing may help you:

  • make      sense of what happened
  • explore      unanswered questions
  • process      emotional responses
  • feel      more settled or informed about your experience

Birth debriefing is not counselling or trauma therapy, though it may feel therapeutic. It does not involve diagnosis or clinical treatment.

Scope of Birth Debriefing

Birth debriefing:

  • focuses      on understanding and reflection
  • is      led at your pace
  • does      not require you to disclose anything you are not ready to share

If it becomes clear that you would benefit from additional or alternative support (such as counselling or trauma therapy), this will be discussed with you.

Session Structure & Fees

Birth debriefs are offered as:

  • 60-minute      sessions — £60
  • 90-minute      sessions — £90

Sessions are available online via Zoom or in person (where applicable).

Emotional Safety & Consent

Birth debriefing is conducted in a trauma-informed and collaborative way.

  • You      are in control of what you choose to share
  • You      may pause, stop, or redirect the conversation at any time
  • You      will not be pressured to revisit distressing details

Your consent is ongoing and can be withdrawn at any point.

Confidentiality

All birth debrief sessions are confidential and managed in accordance with:

  • UK      GDPR
  • The      Data Protection Act 2018
  • The      BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions

Confidentiality may only be broken in rare circumstances, including:

  • risk      of serious harm to yourself or others
  • safeguarding      concerns involving children or vulnerable adults
  • legal      or court requirements

These limits will always be explained clearly.

Online Birth Debriefs

If your birth debrief takes place online:

  • You      are responsible for ensuring a private and safe space
  • A      stable internet connection is required
  • While      reasonable steps are taken to protect privacy, no online platform can be      guaranteed to be completely secure

Boundaries of the Service

Birth debriefing:

  • is      not medical advice
  • does      not replace care from your healthcare provider
  • is      not a substitute for counselling or trauma therapy

If additional support is recommended, this will be discussed sensitively.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide as much notice as possible.
Specific cancellation arrangements will be agreed at the time of booking.
