A birth debrief is an opportunity to discuss the birth, understand what happened and process the emotions around any aspects of your birth you found challenging, upsetting or unexpected.
When I was working as a midwife in clinical practice I was working with an increasing number of women, birthing people and their partners who experienced birth trauma following difficult experiences during the birth process.
As a very experienced therapist I felt drawn to training in a specific type of trauma therapy which is aimed at supporting people who had experienced birth trauma. This type of therapy is short-term, solution focused and structured which is very different from my counselling practice but I have been privileged to be party to some remarkable results since I trained 6 years ago.

I am Welsh and very proud of my Welsh roots. I have lived in Stockport, England for 20 years.
I am married to an Englishman and have 2 sons, a daughter and 2 dogs!
I completed a Psychology degree at the University of Wales, Swansea in 1997, a Diploma in Counselling from the University of Chester in 2003 and a Midwifery Degree from the University of Manchester in 2018. I completed Rewind for Birth Trauma in 2019 and KGH Hypnobirthing training in 2022.
I have experience and training in many therapeutic techniques but always aim to meet people where they are, at any given moment and offer support tailored accordingly.
I feel strongly that maternity services need to offer trauma-informed, compassionate care and focus my professional practice as a midwife lecturer around raising awareness of trauma-informed care.
